    In the beginning to intermediate level wheel throwing course, you will focus on fundamentals, such as centering clay, raising the walls, and shaping basic cylindrical forms to create cups, bowls, bottles and jars. Basic glazing techniques, use of slips, and under glazes will also be covered.


    Students are responsible for prividing their own high fire clay (cone 10) and ceramic tools (both sold at Red Ox Clay Studio).


      Payments & Refunds Full course payment is due at time of enrollment. A full refund will be issued if enrollment is cancelled 7-days before the start of the first-class.


      Each regular-course session is composed of 8-weeks, with 3-hours of instruction per week. Additionally, students have access to open-studio hours during their 8-week course session.


      The cost of each 8-week class includes instruction, access to equipment, use of studio glazes, and a designated amount of firing space. Students will need to bring or purchase their own tools and clay.



      Wheel Classes

      Up to 20lbs of class work (10lbs of bisque firing & 10lbs of glaze firing)


      Handbuilding Classes

      Up to 30lbs of class work (15lbs of bisque firing & 15lbs of glaze firing)


      Sculpture Classes

      Up to 3 projects per class.


      *Additional firing space is available for a fee.



      It is not possible to provide make-ups of missed-classes. However, all students are welcome to use the studio during open-studio hours. 



      Basic safety procedures will be explained at the beginning of each course and must be strictly adhered to. Any further questions about procedure or use of equipment may be addressed to any instructor or staff member. All regular session courses are designed for adults. Teens may be accepted into the program on a case-by-case basis, provided they are mature and responsible enough to abide by all safety standards. Please contact the studio before enrolling any persons under the age of 18 in a class.



      Open-studio hours reflect mid-week hours that Red Ox has staff members present and that classes are not in-session. Hours may change as courses are added or removed from the schedule.
